Signal Sleuth¶
Client: Andy Ward, Ubisense.
Modern factories use location sensing systems to track tools, vehicles and materials in real time, in order to measure processes and automate control systems – these videos give some insight into typical customers and use cases: video 1, video 2. The accuracy and reliability of the indoor location tracking is crucial, but industrial environments are difficult places in which to make good measurements: metal structures reflect radio signals and sensor observations can be incomplete or contradictory. Human experts can often work out what really happened by interpreting noisy measurements using their understanding of physics, movement patterns and operational context. Your challenge is to build a system that can do the same automatically, determining the most likely locations and movements of objects from imperfect evidence and explaining its reasoning to the user. The client can provide large collections of real industrial data together with technical background information, allowing solutions to be developed and evaluated against genuine industrial scenarios.
